Pinterest sections are a new feature and way to organize your boards on Pinterest, but do they improve your overall SEO on Pinterest in search? I’m sharing some strategic ways you can use sections on Pinterest.

Pinterest sections appeared on Pinterest sometime in the fall of 2017. Many of us were wondering the question: Should I be using Pinterest sections in my Pinterest marketing strategy? Here’s how they appear:
Pinterest sections were designed to organize broad topic boards. If you had a board such as “Recipes,” the user can generate sections within those boards that would sort through boards containing hundreds of pins. If you have been using Pinterest since its discovery, you can imagine how helpful this would be for the user. In fact, I think it’s a great idea. It encourages the reader to come back to their boards to find the perfect pin.
A lot of questions have arisen on whether Pinterest sections are useful for the Pinterest marketer. Afterall, boards are searchable (more on that in a post here), but are using Pinterest sections a strategic priority to get more visibility and traffic to your site? Alisa, of Tailwind tells us this:
On a recent Pinterest Insiders webinar, I asked the presenter, “Do board sections impact search or discovery at all?” She answered:
“Currently, (using Pinterest board sections) does not (have an impact on search), it’s really a Pinner feature that we mainly did to help you guys organize your Pins. So this was us really wanting to put our Pinners first here, making it easier for you to use Pinterest and have a really great experience. But if something changes we’ll definitely keep you posted.” via
Pinterest marketers everywhere can breathe a sign of relief. For now, Pinterest sections are for the user experience only, not for the marketer. This could certainly change in the future, but for now, feel free to use Pinterest sections to organize your pins. There are so many other important SEO features of Pinterest— you can find a whole post on this topic here.

This was helpful! Thank you for posting. I was wondering if sections would be more useful for search ability or if niching down boards is a better option. So this definitely answers my question!
Hi Alex! So glad it was helpful! Watch this space though, because sections could have more significance in 2019. Right now, it’s difficult to manage them with schedulers like Tailwind too.
Yes, it is not possible to tell Tailwind to schedule in a specific section within a board. Shouldn’t Tailwind create the functionality to support scheduling to a section? This seems like a feature that’s lacking. Can their developers not code such a functionality? I just wonder if it’s a technical limitation or if it’s a business reason for not providing this.
It’s 8/21/2019 as I write this. since Pinterest board sections aren’t searchable (currently), I guess I’m wondering why that is a big deal. For example, when I search for “mens workouts”, “All pins” is selected by default and I see pins in the Pinterest results.
How often do people use the search dropdown?
Just my confused thoughts here.
Hi! It might simply be that Pinterest hasn’t allowed developers to cater to that specific feature.
